New Demo Version (#9) is now available!

Get the demo here: https://copy.com/ImfUykDYYGqs

(the FULL file contains the full demo -for new players-. The UPDATE file contains the 1 file you need to replace to update to the latest demo version)

Sim Hero Bug Fixes / Additions

Changes:

- Diplomatic Crisis Events now "lock" you from talking with other races once the event is successfully completed. This is a temp fix until a more elegant event  system is in place, but it does address the confusion and "strangeness" which could occur after you satisfy a racial event, but are still waiting for its timer to "come due".

- The "Formation" screen was causing massive problems, including duplication of heroes. After spending a week tweaking it, the screen has been reverted to its original purpose and the items to transfer party members between parties have been re-introduced (not compatible with saved games). Fixing this -longterm- will go into the queue, but we thought it better to have a more stable demo version available now.

- Rare items were dropping too frequently. Toned down. (loot tables are being continuously tweaked)

Fixes:

- Gold is actually decreased now when you recruit troops

- The timer to recruit troops was halved as it was far too large. (you get the troops faster now)

- Recruiting (army) is now disabled if you've already asked for new recruits

- using the transfer papers to "empty" a team resulted in you controlling a "ghost team" which would eventually crash the game. This was fixed.

- When using the mouse to move on the overlands, the party movement would continue even after an ambush. This has been fixed.

- You can't send your main character or court members to the Army any longer.

- Adding heroes to your reserves when your reserve party is max size will no longer result in the loss of the newly recruited hero.

General:

- We split the game files into "FULL" and "UPDATE". If you already have the full game, all you need to download when there is a patch is the UPDATE file. (overwrite the existing file and you're good to go!)

Known Bugs:

- loot/gold/xp for Court battles needs tweaking

- mouse behavior in full screen, using keyboard control is still buggy. an option to disable the mouse is complete, it's just in testing phase now.

Sim Hero Bug Fixes / Additions

Changes:
- Loot tables tweaked

- Gold rewards tweaked

- More loot added (especially "consumables")

- Loot gained is better if the party is of the "appropriate" level. Yes, there can be some "gaming" of the system, but it's far better to adventure with a party at or below the recommended level for the dungeon, than with an "overlevelled"  party.

- The Formation screen now doesn't allow party members to switch to adventuring groups, nor can you "see" heroes who are on adventure until they return.

Fixes:
- Dead heroes are now, once again, available for re-recruiting (they get thrown back into the "available" pool)

- After merging the loot lists, some additional changes were needed. Loot & Gold are once again properly given out AFTER the party returns from its adventure.

- Removed "Switch to Party X" items... all hero movement between parties should be handled by the "Formation" screen.

- Default screen resolution set back to 640x480 (original demo values). It was changed back to the RPGMaker default of 544x416 to accomodate the mouse support. Mouse support was fixed to work with 640x480. This should give more room for text and cleanup much of the text clipping.

Known Bugs:

- If your "Reserves" are full, you cannot gain new heroes. (actively working on this)

- Rare items are dropping too frequently, loot tables are being continuously tweaked.

Ground Zero - Sim Hero Notes

11/12/2013

Wow... here we are! We'll be using this blog to keep the community informed of Sim Hero updates & development.

How did we get here and where are we at?

The playable demo showcases the core game mechanic I’m striving to accomplish: manage parties of adventurers through a series of dungeons for loot, fame and experience points.

After playing the *few* similar games in this category, I was left wanting for more features – so I’m working to add what I feel “should be there.” I already have dozens of classes completed, hundreds of skills, a multi-class system, job points (skill buy), castle upgrading, loot rarities and a bunch of additional things absent from My Life as King and other games.

You’ll notice many rough edges (just like in the early days of Dwarf Fortress). There may be unrealized features and a few glitches. But the game will run. It will play. (Windows only) And I hope to create something as an example of what one dedicated person can do – and maybe I’ll inspire someone with some real coding chops to make something grander.

In the end, this is the type of game I want to play… and I cannot play it until someone makes it. For some reason, that “someone” is me… so here we go!
